Thousands of people are suffering from thyroid problems which could be very bothersome. Indeed, thyroid gland plays a central role in the body metabolism and thyroid pathologies can lead to various symptoms: excessive sweating, irritability, palpitations, a swollen neck and weight loss.
Thyroid nodules are very common in the general population. These tissue growths are mostly benign and can remain untreated as soon as they are not symptomatic. When they induce pain, swallowing discomfort, or esthetic issues, thyroid nodules can be removed surgically. Thyroid surgery is quite complicated. It is performed under anesthesia and induces a scar and long-term medication to replace thyroid function.
As an alternative to surgery, echotherapy is a new treatment that uses focused ultrasound to non-invasively treat thyroid nodule thanks to thermal ablation. The treatment is being used for the first time in the UK at the London Endocrine Centre.
